Nyungwe Forest National Park

Nestled in a tea plantation on the edge of the park, it is a modern lodge, intimate despite its size and blending well into the local environment.

Position

On a hilltop in Gisakura, within a working tea plantation and on the edge of Nyungwe National Park.

Rooms

22 rooms and suites, that all have en-suite bathroom, lounge with fireplace and private veranda. Facilities include a swimming pool, a gym and a spa.

Activities

Chimpanzee trekking, other primate species trekking, canopy walk, walks to the Kamiranzovu waterfall and swamps, cultural and tea plantation visits.

Wildlife

Nyungwe forest is home to 75 mammal species including 13 primate species. Among these there are a 400 chimpanzees population and some other rare primates: the golden monkey, the grey-cheeked mangabey, the L’Hoest’s monkey and the Hamlyn’s monkey. Over 300 bird species, with a number of endemic ones, and 200 tree species have been identified in the park.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is home to an incredible diversity of primates and offers beautiful hiking trails in one of Africa’s oldest forests. The chimpanzee trekking and the canopy walk above the forest, the highest in East Africa, are must-do activities.
