Lions and elephants are the stars of the Savute. Among predators also leopards, cheetahs, spotted hyenas and African wild dogs. Thousands of zebras and wildebeest crowd the Savute swamps during the summer. Rains attract herds of buffalo and migratory birds, raising the number of the bird species to more than 300.
